# zhijiong huang > Master's of Engineering Student at UC Berkeley Location: Berkeley, California, United States Profile: https://flows.cv/zhijiong I am currently a graduate student in UC Berkeley-Master of Engineering program. My major is Mechanical Engineering with a focus on product design. I aim to utilize my technology background and management skills to improve user experience in the field of human-centered design. I am also an energetic individual who is always seeking opportunities to learn, grow, and "survive" in a new environment. I am very willing to help others and build great relationships in a group. I want to explore new opportunities that challenge myself, which in turn develop my personal growth and problem-solving abilities. I also make efforts to discover my real passion and tie it to my work, no matter what I do. ## Work Experience ### Team member @ UC Berkeley College of Engineering Jan 2018 – Present | UC Berkeley The team aims to design a modular military boot. We conducted preliminary research and interviews to determine the most urgent need of the target users. Then, we determined to focus on designing the boot with adjustable support. We also built a high-fidelity prototype by using 3D printing and test on potential users for feedback. The current process is to improve the design to make it manufacture-ready and create the packaging and marketing plan. ### Project Manager & User Experience Researcher @ UC Berkeley Coleman Fung Institute for Engineering Leadership Jan 2018 – Present | UC Berkeley The goal of the team is to build an underwater VR exploration game to familiarize museum visitors with marine creatures. We also designed a testing game with four types of underwater motion to research the different age groups' performance of movement. ### Co Project Manager @ UCSB HYPERLOOP Jan 2017 – Jan 2018 | Unuversity of California, Santa Barbara As UCSB Hyperloop's co-project manager, I led the team of 40 undergraduate engineers and won the 1st place in the SpaceX's levitation sub-competition. We designed and built an ultralight (13.7 lb.) self-propelled levitating Hyperloop pod prototype. I also present the project during the UCSB Engineering showcase. As a member of the structure team, we coordinate with the composite and build a 5ft*20in*8in frame with prepreg carbon fiber and aramid honeycomb core. ### Product Designer Intern @ Tianda tools co. LTD Jan 2017 – Jan 2017 | Zhangjiagang, Jiangsu, China The first part of my internship is to learn the manufacturing process of tools. After that, I collaborated with other engineers to design a new bolt cutter which requires less power. I also designed a scale plate and changed the manufacturing process to improve 5% manufacturing efficiency. ### Mechanical System Designer @ UC Santa Barbara Jan 2016 – Jan 2017 | University of California The team took part in the SourceAmerica Design Challenge, which aims to create innovative workplace technologies for people with disabilities. Our designed a robotics painter controlled by a joystick handlebar for an artist with cerebral palsy. I assembled the CAD Model by SolidWorks and manufactured the painter using the lathe and mill. For the last three months, we allowed the artist to try the prototype. We improved the design based on the artist's feedback. ### Team Leader @ UC Santa Barbara Jan 2016 – Jan 2016 | University of California, Santa barbara The team devised an “Emoji” dancing robot based on secondary school students’ requirements. I used laser cutter to manufacture the robot and designed the electric circuit for power supply. At the end of the quarter, we programmed the robot by Arduino and performed in the Design Showcase. ## Education ### Master of Engineering - MEng in Mechanical Engineering University of California, Berkeley ### Bachelor of Science - BS in Mechanical Engineering UC Santa Barbara ## Contact & Social - LinkedIn: https://linkedin.com/in/zhijiong-huang --- Source: https://flows.cv/zhijiong JSON Resume: https://flows.cv/zhijiong/resume.json Last updated: 2026-04-13
