# Zhongying Qiao > Senior Software Engineer at GitHub, MS Computer Science - University of Notre Dame. Location: San Francisco Bay Area, United States Profile: https://flows.cv/zhongying Zhongying is a passionate adherent towards using technology to improve day-to-day living condition for human societies, with a particular interest in developing innovative software and security technologies. She is currently a senior software engineer working at the security products engineering team in GitHub's San Francisco office. Before GitHub, she worked as a software engineer at the audio distribution platform SoundCloud in Berlin, Germany, and as a research assistant at the University of Notre Dame department of computer science and engineering. During her studies she completed four engineering internships in various parts of Europe: Bosch Power Tools (United Kingdom); Bosch Connected Device and Solutions GmbH (Germany); Fraunhofer Institute IPK (Germany); and Technische Universität Kaiserslautern (Germany). She obtained a master's degree in computer science from the University of Notre Dame (Jan 2019), two joint master's degree in ICT Innovation from Technische Universität Berlin (Germany) and University of Trento (Italy) in 2016. She was awarded a Bachelor of Engineering degree with Honors of the First Class from the University of Glasgow (United Kingdom) in Electronics and Electrical Engineering in 2014, graduated within the top 2% of her class. ## Work Experience ### Senior Software Engineer @ Cline Jan 2025 – Present | San Francisco Bay Area Core-platform team ### Senior Software Engineer @ GitHub Jan 2023 – Jan 2025 | San Francisco Bay Area ### Software Engineer @ GitHub Jan 2019 – Jan 2023 | San Francisco Bay Area Software Engineering, Product Security Engineering. ### PhD Research Assistant @ University of Notre Dame Jan 2017 – Jan 2019 | South Bend, Indiana Area My research focused on Computer Security, Networking Systems and Big Data. I left the position in August 2017 in order to pursuit a PhD degree in the US. My main responsibilities at SoundCloud are as follows: ● Working on Backend implementation in Scala that enables new Remote device sign-in feature on SoundCloud's Xbox and Windows app; ● Adding new features to sign-in service codebase and contributing to architectural design of SoundCloud's sign-in related micro-services, ● Maintaining existing sign-in related services and Investigating user authentication and authorisation related errors and implement solutions; Working with Prometheus to monitor service traffic, attending UpTime training for on call duties; ● Working with Production engineering team to develop onboarding materials on deployment processes at SoundCloud, using Docker and Kubernetes; ● Improving existing sign-in flow, refactoring existing codebase; ● Writing RESTful APIs, working on Backend for Frontend micro-service integration. ### Machine Learning Engineer Intern @ Fraunhofer Institute for Production Systems and Design Technology IPK Jan 2016 – Jan 2017 | Berlin Area, Germany At the Secure Identities Research Group at Fraunhofer IPK, my tasks focus on the implementation of a series of computer vision and machine learning projects applied to pattern recognition, image analysis and person re-identification applications. ### Software Engineer Intern @ Bosch Connected Devices and Solutions Jan 2016 – Jan 2016 | Reutlingen Area, Germany As a software engineer intern at BCDS, I was given various tasks in test automation for the smart parking and transport data logger applications. My main work involved writing Python scripts and C++ code for automating the acceptance test with various robotic arms. ### Electrical Engineer Intern @ Bosch Jan 2014 – Jan 2014 | Ipswich, United Kingdom I was part of the engineering R&D team for the development of the new robotic lawn mower Indego S. My main tasks included developing and evaluating new system concepts, implementation of the safety system (tilt and lift-up safety controls); field testing; making and wiring hardware prototype; communicating with electronic component suppliers (JST connectors and Texas Instrument) for technical assessment, and for the latter, the adoption their product in our safety design. I also worked with the marketing team for the graphic UI decision and functionality implementation, conducted competitor mower studies from technical aspects. Provided assistance with project management using Microsoft Access. ### Control Engineering Research Intern @ Microelectronic Systems Design Research Group at the University of Kaiserslautern Jan 2013 – Jan 2013 | Kaiserslautern, Rhineland-Palatinate, Germany I worked for Lehrstuhl für Regelungssysteme at TU Kaiserslautern’s Fachbereich ElektrotechnikundInformationstechnik, on the project "vibration control of a flexible robot". In the three-month period I simulated 3 systems on MATLAB/Simulink: pendulum, moving pendulum, inverted flexible beam; I developed algorithms to fusion data collected from accelerometers and a gyroscope measured at the tip of the beam, constructed a Kalman filter to create an estimator that achieves angular estimation. I was selected to participate in the internship through the prestigious RISE program funded by the German Academic Exchange Agency (DAAD). ## Education ### Master of Science - MS in Computer Science University of Notre Dame Jan 2017 – Jan 2019 ### Master of Science (M.Sc.) in ICT Innovation in Security and Privacy Technische Universität Berlin Jan 2014 – Jan 2016 ### Bachelor of Engineering (BEng) with honors of the first class in Electronics and Electrical Engineering University of Glasgow Jan 2010 – Jan 2014 ### Master of Science (M.Sc.) in ICT Innovation in Security and Privacy Università di Trento Jan 2015 – Jan 2016 ### Master of Science (M.Sc.) in ICT Innovation EIT Digital Alumni Jan 2014 – Jan 2016 ### Summer School in Future Networking Solutions (IoT) KTH Royal Institute of Technology Jan 2015 – Jan 2015 ## Contact & Social - LinkedIn: https://linkedin.com/in/cryptoque --- Source: https://flows.cv/zhongying JSON Resume: https://flows.cv/zhongying/resume.json Last updated: 2026-03-22
